Our woollen Lokk extensions are made from Australian merino wool or merino based blends. I’ve chosen merino wool as its light weight and soft, making very comfortable and breathable dreadlock extensions.

Each lokk extension is crafted by hand, blending fibres then using wet felting or braiding techniques.
They can be installed permanently to the ends of your lokks, add into your existing lokks for more volume, or warn temporarily as a braid in style.

For braid-in Lokk extensions, you’ll need a minimum of 4-6 inches to ensure the braid can securely hold the Lokk extension.

We recommend starting with thinner Lokk extensions if you have short hair, and you can move into thicker extensions as your hair grows longer.

When installing temporary Lokk extensions, we use a protective braid style. The style doesn’t involve any harsh chemicals or products, and is a comfortable and gentle technique on your scalp and hair!

Temporary braid-in appointment times will vary depending on your hair type, length, and desired style. On average most appointments average 1 hour per 15 Lokk extensions.

Temporary braid-in styles can be worn for 4-10 weeks before needing to be redone. How long the braids last will depend on how quickly your hair grows and your lifestyle. I recommend wearing a bonnet or using a silk/satin pillowcase to help keep your braids neater for longer.

Your woollen lokk extensions can be rebraided in each install. When looked after properly, the extensions can last you years or even a lifetime!

When wearing our temporary lokks, shampoo your scalp then rinse your head, the braids and extensions gently and thoroughly. After washing you can apply hydrating oil or spray to your scalp or braids, but avoid using conditioner as this can cause product build up in your braids.

Some people wash their hair once a week and others once a month. The wool will absorb a lot of your natural oils, so you may find you can wait longer between washes. It’s really up to you and what suits your lifestyle, hair type, and makes you feel good!

Carefully cut and remove the elastic followed by undoing the braid. Gently brush your hair starting at the ends and slowly working your way up, removing any tangles or shedded hair trapped in the braid. Repeat until all the braids are taken out. If you have naturally straight, fragile or long hair, spray the braid down with a conditioning spray before undoing the braid. This will help you safely remove the braids, avoiding unwanted damage from tangles or harsh brushing.

Do not be alarmed if it looks like a lot of hair comes out when brushing. We naturally shed 50-100 hairs a day, and these hairs have just been held in your braids instead of falling away!

Gently hand wash your woollen extensions in warm water with a little bit of wool friendly soap. You can also add your favorite essential oils to the water. After washing, thoroughly rinse and then hang to dry.

Do not put them in the dryer or washing machine! It will over process them causing them to shrink, tangle and even break them!
